Where does MindYoga originate?
MindYoga started with a question at a dinner party in 1971. A young artist named Leslie Temple-Thurston, living in apartheid South Africa, suddenly saw through all the divisions that keep us stuck — right and wrong, logic and intuition, us and them. With her country being ripped apart by racism, she glimpsed a way to unify opposites rather than be torn apart by them. That moment set her on a decades-long journey through spiritual psychology and the ancient yoga of the mind, culminating in a two-year "cave experience"—not in the Himalayas, but in the middle of Los Angeles. What emerged were four deceptively simple practices—Witnessing, Polarities, Triangles, and Squares. She taught them to a small circle of students. One of them, Brad Laughlin, spent the next 35+ years quietly spreading the work, co-authoring The Marriage of Spirit with Leslie, and watching thousands of lives transform. In 2023, everything aligned, and MindYoga was born — those same four practices, distilled from the book into short, accessible videos anyone can use.
Where should I begin?
Start with the five videos on this site: Introduction to MindYoga, Witnessing, Polarities, Triangles, and Squares. They're short, and they'll give you everything you need to understand how the practices work. Then just try them. Don't overthink it. Don't wait until you "get it" intellectually—the practices are meant to be done, not studied. Pay attention to any shifts in how you feel, how you react, how you move through your day. If something's clicking and you want to go deeper—make it a daily rhythm, work through what comes up, practice alongside others—the community is there when you're ready.
How is MindYoga different from physical yoga?
Physical yoga (hatha yoga) works on the body to reach the mind. MindYoga works on the mind to reach everything else. Hatha yoga—when it's not being treated as a glute workout—is an ancient path of Self-discovery. It prepares the physical body to hold more light and energy, so you can come to know your own inner divinity. MindYoga is the same kind of path, just from the other direction. Instead of using the body as a doorway, it gives you direct tools to observe your own mind and clear the patterns that keep you stuck. No mat, no spandex, no flexibility required. The two practices aren't rivals—they're different doors into the same room. In fact, they're natural companions: hatha yoga opens the body to hold more light, and MindYoga clears the mind so that light can actually land here—in your body, in your life, in the world of matter. If you already do physical yoga, MindYoga will deepen it. If you don't, you've skipped nothing.
Do I need any prior experience with meditation or yoga?
Nope. MindYoga meets you where you are. If you've never sat still for 30 seconds, that's fine. If you've done a decade of Vipassana meditation, also fine. The framework adapts to the practitioner, not the other way around.
