MindYoga Origin Story
MindYoga is built on the teachings of The Marriage of Spirit, a book by Leslie Temple-Thurston and Brad Laughlin that distills decades of spiritual inquiry, personal transformation and teaching. At its heart are four simple, effective practices for observing the mind, resolving inner conflict, opening the heart and releasing unconscious conditioning.
Leslie's journey began at a dinner party in South Africa in 1971. Mid-argument about art versus science, something cracked open. She saw that opposites aren't really opposite—they come from the same source. Male and female, logic and intuition, the racial divisions tearing her country apart—all surface ripples on a deeper unity. She didn't have words for it yet. The seeker in her had simply awakened for good.
Years later, after moving to Los Angeles and withdrawing into an extended contemplative retreat, Leslie emerged as a teacher, carrying a synthesis of spiritual psychology and jnana yoga—the ancient yoga of the mind. She even used these life-changing practices to heal her own Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It never returned.
Brad arrived at her classes in the early '90s, earnest and wholly unprepared for what was coming. After a year and a half, the two began their life partnership and teaching together. He filled notebooks with the practices and watched his own life transform: more peace, better relationships, increased abundance, meditation states he hadn't known were possible. He watched the same happen for hundreds of others.
In 2000, they self-published The Marriage of Spirit, which has sold steadily and organically for over 25 years by word of mouth. As Brad puts it, the teachings were treated like a flower: "It blooms, the scent goes out, and those who are drawn come to it."
MindYoga is that book distilled into its most direct expression—short, animated videos with no philosophy to wade through, no prerequisites, nothing to believe in. Just tools you can use in minutes a day.
The premise is almost too simple: Change the world by changing yourself. No organization to join, no movement to sign up for, no enemy to fight. Just the quiet, genuinely revolutionary act of clearing your own conditioning and learning to live from the heart. When the inner division heals, the outer divisions start looking less permanent.
